How to Accessorize at Disney World

March 9, 2012

Walt Disney World is one of those places where you can get away with and even get complimented on wearing fun accessories that you would otherwise get some pretty sideways stares.  Not only do these items make great conversation starters with other guests in line, but also look amazing in photos.  Every theme park has shirts and other apparel you can buy, but Disney truly takes it to the next level.  I personally love this aspect of Disney and would love to share with you some of my favorite Disney accessories!

Pins!  I love these things!  They are just a simple push pin and can be affixed to anything but the most popular option is definitely the Disney lanyards.   Not only can you buy pins in the parks, but you can also trade with other guests and CastMembers!  Between buying and trading, guests tend to have a diverse collection that they are truly proud of.  I personally like to have my lanyards themed and I have a Tinkerbell lanyard, a Christmas Lanyard, and a Miscellaneous Pin Lanyard.  It is also fun to get pins from various Disney destinations or from events.  I have pins from Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and the Disney Cruise Line.  I also have some Cast Member only pins from when I worked there.  Click here to learn more about Disney Pin Trading!

What to wear at Disney

Ears (and hats)!  Who doesn’t feel the nostalgia of their first trip to WDW when looking at a basic pair of Mickey Ears?  These are a staple for first time visitors and also a popular souvenir item.  You can even have them personalized with your name at the Magic Kingdom!  If you are looking for something a little more unique than the ears, you will find an abundance of character, seasonal, and just plain fun hats to wear at Disney.  I have to say I had some fun wearing my oversized Tinkerbell stocking cap in the winter.  Click here to look at some fun hat options for your next trip!

Disney World Packing Tips

March 8, 2012

Taking a Walt Disney World vacation is a massive undertaking!  You’ve done the best thing by booking with an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner.  Now let’s look at some Disney World Packing tips:

walking shoes, ponchos, first aid kit

* Poncho for Rain.  Some guests like to take the cheap, thin ponchos you can find at the Dollar Tree, etc.  They wear them on rides where they know they’ll get wet then toss them.  But in the heat of south Florida, they can become sticky if you have to wear them during a rainstorm.  I choose to pack a heavier plastic poncho.  They hang well, don’t cling to you and won’t blow around so much in the wind.

* Another good Disney World packing tip is to bring an extra pair of comfortable walking shoes.  Swap out your shoes each day.  Your feet will feel fresher and this will give your shoes a chance to dry well should they get wet from rain or sweat.  You’re going to be doing a lot of walking!

The Disney Fantasy Cruise

March 7, 2012

It is always an exciting time when Disney decides to continue growing and expanding as a company.  Now, they are launching their 4th cruise ship that will be setting sail on its maiden voyage at the end of this month.  This new addition has been named the Disney Fantasy and is nothing short of its namesake.  It is full of grandeur and fantasy for all who are fortunate enough to sail on her.

Disney Fantasy Cruising

I was given a very wonderful opportunity to take a private tour of this magnificent ship and while my expectations were quite high, they were surpassed and exceeded.   As I saw her in the water, I stood in awe of this ship and the beauty that was in front of me.   The Disney Fantasy is the sister-ship to the Disney Dream, for those of you who have had the good fortune to sail on her.  The Fantasy has kept so many of the wonderful attributes that the Dream has, but has added some wonderful additions as well.  This ship is a 130,000 ton vessel and offers 14 towering decks, 1,250 staterooms and is 1,115 feet in total length and 125 feet wide at its maximum width.   Pretty amazing!

Building on the classic style of the previous ships, the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder and the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy is a majestic sailing vessel where early 20th-century design—recalling the golden age of cruising—meets state-of-the-art technology. This ship is designed with families in mind, combining sleek style and convenient facilities with splashes of Disney magic.  There are Disney details at every turn.  From the “Hidden Mickey’s” to the Cinderella coach-shaped bread basket in the Royal Court dining room, they have it covered.
