Dumbo the Flying Elephant

May 3, 2012

Fantasyland is the setting for this iconic ride.  Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction is based on a character in a 1941 animated film.  This popular kiddie ride debuted in Disney World in 1971.  Currently the Dumbo ride is the process of being moved closer to where Mickey’s Toontown Fair was previously located.

Fantasyland Disney Ride

Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride is simple; however unlike its predecessor this goes counterclockwise.  Although they used the same body for the rides it features new color schemes of blues, reds, and golds which is a perfect fit for a circus theme after all the movie where this ride was based on was on a circus.

These flying elephants are attached to armatures which are connected to a rotating hub. You can sour up in the sky with Dumbo’s new found skills.  Guests can maneuver the easy to use joystick to maneuver Dumbo up and down.  Every child will love this classic ride and for the parents, Dumbo the Flying Elephant will bring back memories of their childhood.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion

May 2, 2012

Liberty Square- “Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion. I am your host – your ‘ghost host.” These are the words you will hear as you stand in the dead center of the octagonal portrait gallery and the walls behind slides close.  Good luck you mortal fools!

Doom Buggies Disney

The Haunted Mansion is one of my favorite Disney attractions. While it is mildly scary, there is no gore and the ghostly residents are quiet friendly.  This 18th century estate is ornate but as you go through the queuing area the air chills and suddenly you will realize there are no doors or windows to escape, hence you will hear, “…And consider this dismaying observation: this chamber has no windows, and no doors… which offers you this chilling challenge: to find a way out! Of course, there’s always my way…” Let the fun er I meant the scare begin.

The guests ride on the “Doom Buggies” which can seat 2 to 3 passengers.  The Haunted Mansion showcases advanced special effects, ghostly audio-animatronics, and age-old tricks.  This haunted mansion is full of humor and it seems like the resident ghouls love a good party.  One of the scene is a ghostly birthday party is taking place.  Some of the friendly ghosts are hanging on a chandelier; a couple of them are enjoying a glass of wine, and dancing to waltz. While riding the “Doom Buggy” you may find three hitchhiking ghosts; would you dare give them a ride?

Rainy Days at Walt Disney World

May 1, 2012

Okay, so you’ve waited this Disney World trip for what seems like forever, have strategically planned dining reservations between a visit to the point A and points B and C, and even managed to wake everyone up on time to be first on the bus.  Park time is maximized, character meet and greets have been arranged… and then it happens.

It rains.

Exposition Hall at Magic Kingdom

Yes, it does rain at the happiest place on earth – even the Imagineers haven’t figured out how to prevent that (yet!).  You should always, always, ALWAYS bring rain ponchos when you head to Florida.  But while the masses are heading for the park exits in droves, take a minute to consider your options.  Your day in Disney World isn’t necessarily a total waste.  Consider the following points:

–          Not all attractions close when it rains – many of the park’s highlights are even rain friendly right down to the lines.  And with crowds clearing out the way they almost do, you may find yourself practically walking on some fan favorites – or discovering your own new ones.  We found ourselves checking out the Exposition Hall at Magic Kingdom one time, completely removed from the mass exiting on Main Street, and to this day it’s one of my husband’s favorite Disney moments.  If it hadn’t been for the crazy lines at the bus stops, who’s to say if we’d have even checked it out?

–          When the park empties out, so do the restaurants.  Did you miss out on a coveted reservation, say at Cinderella’s Royal Table or LeCellier?   Give them a call or walk on over  – someone else’s cancellation could make this your lucky day!
