My experience with MyMagic+ and MagicBands

February 10, 2014 by MickeyTravels

Disney World has been upgrading their technology in a BIG way! I was able to participate in the MyMagic+ and MagicBands pilot during my last trip in November. I personally loved the new technology and have been helping my clients use these new programs to make their trips hassle free and even more magical!

MyMagic+ in a nutshell combines the best of Disney with the web and smartphone apps to allow guests more personalization, more control, and the opportunity to make select changes to their day easily so they don’t miss out on the magic.

I find that many clients are overwhelmed with all the new lingo, new websites, apps, etc. In this blog, I will go through the basics just to get your comfortable with the new system and a basic timeline of how it works. Obviously when you book with me we go into greater detail and I take care of everything.

When you book- The first thing I have clients do after I book their trip is to set up an account with “My Disney Experience”. We will use this account to manage all reservations. I still make all client reservations (a free service) but they can now see it all in one place and (if they choose) make some of their own. When I did this for my personal trip, I found it very easy and loved that I could see everything on my laptop, IPAD, and smartphone.

Next Steps-There are 3 important steps for clients to do prior to their trip;1) Link reservations, 2) Customize MagicBands, and 3) Make FastPass+ selections.  Traveling with my husband and son, I liked that I could get pink, my husband could have blue, and our little space ranger could get green when we picked out MagicBand colors. They came in the mail and we actually wore them on the plane and it was fun to know we were all ready to go! As far as FastPasses, we chose them based around our dining times to start.

In transit – MagicBands can store your Magical Express info so when you arrive in Orlando no more fumbling for your documents. Simply scan your MagicBand and the Cast Member will tell you which bus stop to go to.

On your trip- Your MagicBand will serve as your room key and your ticket. Beyond this, you will use it to redeem your dining credits, FastPasses, your photos can be linked, and you can even charge items to the room (if you want!). I personally loved not having to dig through my purse, especially holding a 7 month old all the time! It was so easy and we loved that I could check out our plans on my smartphone and even change our FastPass times if it was nap time, a bus was late, or whatever else might cause a hiccup.

I hope this helped to get your familiarized with the new process! I would love to help plan your family’s magical Disney vacation this year! I have personally used the new technology and loved it! Disney continues to update the process and adds new magical features all the time! I am going again in June and will give another update then.
