The Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World

February 27, 2012 by MickeyTravels

One of the most beautiful resorts on Walt Disney World property is the Polynesian Resort.  Disney’s Polynesian resort is located on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and is one of my favorite resorts on property.

It is themed after the South Pacific and Hawaii and is as authentic as you could get.  You can actually lose yourself in its beauty and forget for a minute that you are at Walt Disney World and not in the Hawaiian islands themselves.  With the lush foliage and exotic birds, there are perfect picture spots at every turn.  My favorite thing has to be at night, when they light the tiki torches that line the passageways leading to all of the buildings that house the Polynesian resort rooms.  Each of these 2 and 3 story buildings is named after a South Pacific island and are nestled within the grounds of this tropical paradise.

The Great Ceremonial House is the main building of the Polynesian Resort where you check in, can find your concierge services as well as 2 table-service restaurants, a quick-service restaurant and great shops.  The Kona Café is on the 2nd floor as well as the very-popular ‘Ohana, which has a wonderful character breakfast each morning.   We cannot forget to mention the Spirit of Aloha Polynesian Luau which has been a favorite of guests for many years.  This is a 2-hour dinner show that is so close to the real thing, you may forget that you are not actually in Hawaii at an authentic luau.

Disney’s Polynesian Resort boasts 2 pools, one of which is the famous “volcano” pool as well as a quieter pool on the other side of the resort.  There is also a marina with jet skis and boats to enjoy out on the Seven Seas Lagoon.   How about the beautiful white beaches on the Seven Seas Lagoon that have hammocks, volleyball nets and secluded areas to relax, all while having the Magic Kingdom as your backdrop.  You are just a rock’s throw away from the Magic Kingdom.  You can actually watch Wishes Fireworks over Cinderella’s Castle by simply watching from the beach.  Each night at 9:00pm, there is the ever-famous Electric Water Pageant that passes by the Polynesian Resort.  It is a must see that has been a part of Disney tradition since 1971.  Not much has changed about this nostalgic light show on the lagoon, but why change something so wonderful.

Perhaps the most desirable part of this tropical resort, is its location and convenience.  It is on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom.  The monorail itself is a rite of passage to enjoy and then to know you can get back to your resort with such ease makes it a great resort to call “home.”  It is also an easy walk to the monorail to EPCOT and a pretty easy bus ride to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom theme parks.

It is so easy to talk about the beauty, relaxing nature and convenience of this resort.  It remains today, one of the most popular resorts to stay at while vacationing at Walt Disney World.  I call it “home” just about every time I visit WDW and will continue to enjoy this beautiful resort for many visits in the future.   It is truly filled with Māmaka Kaiao – (magic in Hawaiian).  Enjoy your stay at the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World.
